March 12th (New Hythe)

Little Egret
Another sunny,spring like day (0900-1100)

From the Bucket wood,I could see (50) Teal,(1) Redshank,(2) Oystercatchers and (5) Cormorants, one of which was a fine adult  P.c. sinenis + the usual gulls. The walk from there past the Sunken marsh and then along the track between the river and Abbey Meads produced,(3) Cetti`s Warblers,(2) Bullfinch and (1) Common Buzzard and a short burst of song from a Chiffchaff. On the lake the majority of winter water fowl had gone, with just (2) Pochard,(4) Gadwall and (3) Shoveler seen. The Heronry was busy, with at least (10) occupied nests,Walking past the east scrub a Green Woodpecker called and a Great spot drummed.Along the Mill stream the Little Egret was seen again as was a Kingfisher.

I also saw three small Tortoiseshell and last week on the 5th,a Brimstone in the garden.
