Abbey Meads Red-necked Grebe two red-head Smew an d one Goosander.
Hi,my name is Alan Woodcock.I have been bird-watching in the area for nearly fifty years and (bird ringing)since 1980.I hope to keep up to date sightings of wildlife I have seen (mainly birds)with occasional diary entries of past times.
The Red-necked Grebe was seen again this morning on Abbey Mead.Along the river from the Bucket wood - circa 45 Teal,15 Wigeon,8 Gadwall,1 Shelduck,1 Snipe and 19 Lapwing. At home, the garden played host to 10 Redwing, from almost first light until dusk.
Finally on this, the fifth day of cold easterlies with snow, two good species turn up.
This morning,I bumped into Glenn Honey again. He had a grin on his face from ear to ear.Moments earlier he had seen and photographed five Great White Egrets on the Streamside lake,Unfortunately for me though, while he was taken the photos from the path. They flew off, heading in a northerly direction. As for the second good species,we saw that only five minutes later,a Red -necked Grebe.
We saw the Little Egret, which looked in poor condition whilst looking at the Grebe. Many Redwings were scraping around under the trees.
The four W F Geese were seen again this morning on the Road island Lake (first seen on December 23rd) and on the 2nd,seven Egyptian Geese, two on Alders lake, four on Brookland and one at Burham marsh.
