June 24th (New Hythe)


I was ringing in the West scrub on the 24th (light overcast) 05:45 - 07:30. 2X40  1X40.

Birds ringed 

Nightingale  4 juv

Wren  2 juv

Cetti`s Warbler 1 juv

Dunnock 2 juv 

Robin 1 juv

Blackcap 1 juv

Chiffchaff  2 adults

Reed Warbler 1 adult

A Cuckoo was heard calling,a Garden Warbler was singing along the northern edge of the Road island lake and in one of the dykes up to four Norfolk Hawkers have been present.The occasional Nightingale can still be heard singing,although it is now mostly churring and whistles.

June 11th (New Hythe)

 06:00 - 09:00 2X40 1X40 (West Scrub)

I was ringing this morning,clear and warm from the start.

Just six birds caught.

Blackcap  1 juv

Whitethroat 1 (5) M 

Dunnock  1 juv

Wren  1 juv

Chiffchaff  (6) M ringed,West Scrub as a juv 01 08 21 (retrap)

Wren  (5) M ringed West Scrub as a (3) 24 10 22 (retrap)

Four Red Kites,followed by a single past over Tesco lake during the morning.Last week several pairs of Nightingales were seen with food for their young  and a drake Teal was seen on the river in the area of Eccles Island Creek,an unusual record for June.Although Teal have been recorded as breeding in the past.
