February 6th (New Hythe)

I was ringing this morning in the West Scrub (0830-1000).

BIRDS RINGED

Treecreeper  1

Long-tailed Tit  3 + 3 re traps

Dunnock  1

Blue Tit  4

Great Tit  1

TOTAL  10 + 3 re traps

All three re traps were L T Tits.

A few weeks ago,I received information from the BTO on a bird that I had ringed in the West Scrub.

JAT869 Willow Warbler (3j) in juvenile plumage,ringed on the  07 Sept 2016

(controlled),caught by a ringer at Laguna,de la Nava,Palencia,Spain,on the 25 Aug 17.The bird had presumably stopped off,to put on more fuel.Before continuing further south to its wintering area in Africa.

Other birds that I saw--the long staying Goosander and four Lesser Redpolls.The Redpolls were the first I have seen in the area this winter.

January 28th (New Hythe)

The Goosander was seen on the Streamside lake this morning.and the long staying Scaup,along with 151 Pochard was still present on Abbey Meads.

January 17th (New Hythe and Chatham Docks)

I went to Chatham Docks this morning,with Bob Bland to see the G N Diver.We also looked in on Abbey Meads (New Hythe,where Bob wanted to see the long staying Scaup.It was nice to see that the
Pochard flock is still growing,with 105 birds today.

January 12th (New Hythe)

I saw 1 red-head Goosander on the Streamside lake and on Abbey Meads,300 Tufted Duck,45 Pochard,52 Gadwall,1 Scaup,4 Shoveler and a pair of Wigeon.Small numbers of Fieldfare and Redwing,were about the bushes..

January 7th (Dungeness)

Strong NE,cold. Ist winter Glaucous Gull and 2nd winter Caspian Gull.

December 29th (Burham marsh)

I looked in on Burham marsh this morning.BIRDS SEEN - 1 Red-breasted Goose,98 Canada Geese,6 Greylag,19 Teal,32 Mallard,1 Grey Heron,70 Lapwing,1 Redshank,1 Common Sandpiper,50 Goldfinch,1 Peregrine and 1 Kerstral.The Red-breasted Goose will probably go down as being of feral origin.

December 28th (New Hythe)

Railway Lake -1 red-head Goosander,1 female Scaup,300 Tufted Duck,2 Shoveler and 6 Gadwall.
