March 31st (Dungeness) and April 6th (Sevenoaks wildfowl reserve)

 Dungeness - cold,some snow.

male Sparrowhawk far left and female far right.This was the first time any of us had seen a male and female Spsrrowhawk together.We must have watched them for at least ten minutes or more,just above us.The female was very interested in the male and kept flying around and then perching close by.(observers,Bob Bland,Jeof Winn,Jeff Vine and myself. .

New Hythe 25th - 1 Red Kite (10:45) NW,1 Green Sandpiper,2 Oystercatchers (river) 6 Blackcaps and 5 Chiffchaffs.

27th overcast,Alders lake,4 Sand Martin,2 Gadwall,along the Mill stream and 1 duck Pochard Abbey Meads.Reed Buntings in evidence,

March 8th (New Hythe)






The Little Owl was ringed in Central Kent on the 3rd.

February 27th (New Hythe)

 Bright,rather cold.

Three Redpolls,along with a small number of Siskins were feeding in the Alders along the northern end of Brookland lake.(photo,adult male redpoll,note pink flush,and rounded tail feathers,

                                        







The drake Scaup was seen on the Railway lake,in with a much depleted flock of Tufted Duck and the Goosander was seen at the southern end of Abbey Meads.

February 25th (BITS AND PIECES)

The closing of the Thames barrier on Monday.Saw the worse floods on Halling marshes I have witnessed, When I walked around the marsh on the Friday,the level had gone down by about three feet. 

Black headed gulls,1 Common Buzzard,1 Stonechat,20 Mallard,6 Gadwall,5 Pied Wagtail and 3 Meadow Pipits were noted.

At New Hythe,my species list (2022) now stands at 58.I have now added Green Sandpiper,Common Sandpiper and Greenfinch.

I saw the drake Scaup this morning (Brookland).

My New Hythe 2022 species total now stands at (55).I added Oystercatcher (1).
