May 31st (New Hythe)

Many of the Nightingales are now feeding young in the nest and Cetti`s Warbler are still in full song.

I recently heard that new housing in the Eccles Old Factory area is going ahead.I heard 15 singing Nightingales there in early May of this year.Eccles Island with its nesting Herons is close by.Then we have the former Ham Hill Golf Course,up for grabs,if that goes under concrete as well,God help us,glad I wont be around to see it all completed.

May 18th (New Hythe)

A quick look at the river produced not a lot - of note 2 Oystercatcher and one Shelduck.

The total for singing Nightingales in the Park is probably 24 and east of the rail way 9.

Willow Warblers past through in quite good numbers, but I know of no birds staying to breed.

May 3rd (Red-rumped Swallow) New Hythe.

 Hazy,light SW,becoming moderate.

Jerry found the bird,I believe at around 08:30,high above the Divers car park.It was associating with a small mixed flock of Swallows,House Martings and Swifts. It was then seen on and off, until its last appearance over the Railway lake at 10:55.

The only other record at New Hythe,is of a bird seen on May 8th 1997.

Well done Jerry,a great find.

LATE UPDATE  -----I went back between 17:15 and 18:15 and saw the bird on and off, mainly feeding low over the Road Island Lake.By this time with the duller conditions and strong wind,100s,if not thousands of hirundines were in the area.At one time they all went up and a chap I bumped into minutes later, said he saw a falcon go through.Which he thought looked like a male RED FOOT,so keep your eyes peeled.

I also saw five Common/Arctic Terns flying SW over the small Tesco lake at 17:30.
