Just a brief visit this morning to the sunken marsh area between 8.am-9.am.
On my arrival I could hear the chattering of Fieldfare coming from the hawthorns along the edge of the marsh.I then noticed that small flocks were coming in from an easterly direction,some of which were dropping down into the hawthorns to join the birds already there,whilst others were continuing on their way northwest.A Common Buzzard,which was being mobbed by two Carrion Crows was seen high over Abbey Mead lake and when I looked across the river I could see (2) more over the Downs at Wouldham.I was hoping there might have been a chance of seeing or hearing the Bearded Tits that Phil had seen yesterday,but there was no sign of them.Instead I had to be content with (2) Water Rails and (3) Cetti`s Warblers.
Later on during the early afternoon,two flocks of twenty and thirty Redwings flew over the garden NW.

ReplyDeletePity you never saw Phil's Bearded Tit/s, still 2 Water rails must make up for it.
Always nice to see the winter thrushes back.
