Hi,my name is Alan Woodcock.I have been bird-watching in the area for nearly fifty years and (bird ringing)since 1980.I hope to keep up to date sightings of wildlife I have seen (mainly birds)with occasional diary entries of past times.
A great find Alan! As you say it must be the same bird. I wonder how long it has been around and how long it will stay.
ReplyDeleteHi Phil,in the area there is a lot of land with short turf and sandy soils, good feeding habitat, but on private land, thats probably why its rarely seen.
ReplyDeleteGreat find Alan, good to get a pic too :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Alan.
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know this Hoopoe has been in Birling as well. I've seen it on various dates from mid-Dec to early Jan but with no set pattern!
Trevor

ReplyDeleteI mostly saw it in Ryarsh Road which is where I live, on lawns and it flew down to the horse fields to the North of the road. It came in my garden three times, I haven't seen it in Birling since 5th Jan. Hope this helps
Thanks Alan/Trevor
ReplyDeleteI visited the area this afternoon, and as you say plenty of habitats that are ideal for it. A couple of helpful residents confirmed it was still in the Sandy Lane area last week (Tue) so I'll keep looking!
