A rather hurried walk around the lakes this morning,Produced the local pair of Common Buzzards displaying high over the Sunken marsh. One Redshank along the river.A pair of Gadwall on Abbey Mead.Three Lesser Black-backed Gulls on Tesco lake.Singles of Lesser Redpoll and Little Egret along the Millstream and 11 Shoveler on Alders lake.Still no sightings of Sand Martin or singing Chiffs. We could do with a shift in the wind direction.Away from the blocking influence of these northerlies
At least some birds are on the move. Before I walked around the lakes.I took our dogs for a walk across the fields towards Paddlesworth.Where I saw c50 Redwing,c 20 Meadow Pipits and 18 Chaffinch.
A pair of Blackbirds was feeding an almost full grown youngster in our garden today.Which means they must have started nesting in mid February.
