February 28th (The Beast From The East continues)

Most of the lakes are now iced over,or partly.I saw the Goosanders yesterday,but there was no sign of them this morning.The Scaup though is still present on Abbey Meads.When this bird first appeared,several months ago,or more,its eye colour was a dull red.It now appears to to be changing to  yellow (age related).
Fieldfare were very noticeable,flying over and about the bushes,but apart from that little has changed.
When I got back home,two Fieldfare had made it into our garden and were feasting on crab apples.

The first Reed Bunting of the winter turned up in the garden on the 21st,but surprisingly,there has been no more sightings and we are still waiting for our first Blackcap.
